I have had the privilege of photographing hundreds of brand new babies over the past 7+ years. It is truly an honor to capture a baby’s first portraits, and it’s a responsibility that I take very seriously. The newborn stage is fleeting, so it’s important that we capture those precious little details and get it right the first time. Your baby’s safety and comfort are my primary concerns, and I always take care to follow baby’s lead in each newborn session.
Below are some of the most common questions I receive about newborn sessions. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions!
When should I schedule my baby’s newborn session?
Please contact me before your baby arrives since I limit the number of newborn sessions I book each month. Occasionally I am able to fit in last-minute newborn sessions, so please ask me about availability even if your baby has already arrived.
When and where will the session take place?
I prefer to photograph newborns within the first 2 weeks whenever possible, and most of the infants you see on my website are younger than 10 days. Babies older than 2 weeks tend to be more alert and harder to pose, making it more difficult to get newborn portraits like the ones on my site. Newborn sessions take place at my studio and generally last 2-3 hours.
What do I need to bring to the session?
Not much! You really just need to bring your baby and whatever you need to feed him/her. I have all the blankets, wraps, and simple accessories that we’ll need for a beautiful session. Newborns are best photographed bare, so there’s no need for you to shop for outfits for baby’s first portrait session.
What if my baby doesn’t sleep?
Over the years I’ve had some babies in the studio who were more alert or required more soothing than others, but we always manage to get beautiful images with a little time & patience. As a professional, I want to make sure that your baby looks peaceful and comfortable in each image, so before your baby’s session I will send you a guide with some tips that can help us have the smoothest session possible.
Can I include my older child(ren)?
Yes! I adore photographing newborns with their older siblings.
