What a great excuse for a photo session! Lily was a fabulous model and she paid me with lots of slobbery kisses between shots.  :-)

Most of you have heard me say this at least once, but photographing your own children is tough. Very tough (for me anyway). Not today, though. I won’t pretend our little session was full of bliss, but it wasn’t full of tears & frustration either. We got a bit of a late start so the locations I was hoping to use weren’t available. We improvised and found a fun little spot I’ve had my eye on for a while.

Getting these shots of him made my day week year. Five is a big year for kids. It’s the line between little kid & big kid. It’s filled with important things like kindergarten and loose teeth. Yep it’s a big one, and I think it’s going to be a great one for my big guy!

This shot was inspired by the fabulous Tiffany of Follow Your Art Photography. She’s done this a few times and as soon as I saw the first one I knew I’d have to give it a whirl with all 3 of mine.

It was lots of fun and very relaxing despite the 12 hour car trip with 3 kids. We spent some time with my brother & sister and their families, and of course we made sure to get a picture of all 8 kids together. I can’t wait to get one printed huge for my house! The trip also consisted of many hours playing at the beach, boiled seafood, a carriage ride, yummy food, a train museum, GPS gone bad, lots of bugs and 347 potty breaks in random gas stations with 2 2-year-olds…the perfect family vacation.

They have a bad case of “photographer’s child syndrome”. Really bad. They’ve even been known to shout “no pictures!” when they see a camera. It’s my own fault for wanting to capture so many moments of their lives with my camera. Even those these aren’t exactly the shots I was hoping for, I still love them. They represent our lives right now, which is what this whole photography thing is all about after all.
